WIZKID

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun popularly known by his stage name Wizkid, is a Nigerian music sensation who is currently making waves not only in Nigeria but all around the world. This weekend we at Naijasownblog will be looking at some of the things you might not know about the 26-year old.

1. WIZKID STARTED OFF AS LIL PRINZ.

Ayodeji actually began his music career with the stage name "Lil Prinz" . In fact his first album, a collaboration with Glorious Five was titled "Lil Prinz".
But after signing for Banky W's Empire Mates Record in 2009, He changed it to Wizkid.

2. WIZKID HAS BEEN AROUND FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW.

Wizkid started doing music in the year 2001, when he was just 11 years of age.  He however became popular in 2010 after the release of his hit song "Holla at your boy" after signing for Banky W's Empire Mates Record. He later left E.M.E  due to what we understand as misunderstandings with Banky W over finances. Wizzy went on to form his own record label called Starboy Entertainment.

3.  NIGERIA'S PRINCE OF TWITTER

It might please you to know that the "don't dull" singer is the first ever Nigerian MUSICIAN to have been able to amass over a million followers on Twitter. He achieved this feat about two years ago and hasn't looked back since.

4. TRUTH ABOUT WIZKID'S ENDORSEMENTS

We one time or the other must have seen Wizkid, alongside fellow musician, Tiwa Savage in Pepsi commercials. What we don't know is the amount he is being paid for such commercials. According to reports, Wizkid is being paid an eye-watering $350,000 a year by the company. That sum is equivalent to 164,840 mill in the Nigerian currency. Little wonder why he calls himself 'Baba Nla' (Big man). Also, in June last year, Pulse reported that Wizkid has ditched MTN in favour of GLO, signing a whooping #128 million deal with GLOBACOM.

5. WIZKID HAS BEEN A VICTIM OF IMPERSONATION

As is expected, Wizkid, being arguably one of Africa's most marketable artist if not the most, has been impersonated on several occasions. However, the most notable of the bunch is the one that happened at the University of Lagos in 2013, where some students claimed to have given the musician #500,000 to perform at a concert only for him not to show up. The police after investigations, found out that the students were coned by some people who claimed to be affiliates with E.M.E .

Wizkid will be releasing an EP(Extended Play) titled "sounds from the other" side very soon.

Keep it a date with us, as we will be back next weekend to discuss some of the obscure things about our favorite celebrities.
